Come and study Latin, the language of ancient Rome, senators, generals, emperors and famous poets, yet also the language of ordinary people. It became the language of one branch of Christianity and of the medieval universities of Europe, the language of international treaties and medical terminology, and the foundation of modern languages such as English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Romanian.
Discover how Latin, far from being a dead language, is still alive today and is all around us! Learning Latin helps to develop critical thinking skills and create keen attention to detail, as well as enhancing problem solving abilities.
This course is modern in its approach – focusing on the life of a Roman family which is both educational and enjoyable.
We will discover how the language is constructed, how to translate it and understand its importance to the English language– 60% of English is derived from Latin. This course is a beginner’s course for those with no or little prior knowledge of the language.
If after this term you would like to continue as group (minimum of 6 learners) onto the following term in September 2025 please make the tutor aware so we can make the necessary arrangements for next term in advance.
