People Professional Level 5 Standard

Overview

Approx. duration: 22 months

Start Date: September

Attendance: One day a week at the Ipswich Campus

Entry requirements:

  • Individual employers will set their selection criteria for applicants
  • Apprentices need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week and have a contract of employment
  • Entry onto the Apprenticeship is subject to a thorough skills scan assessment to clarify course suitability
  • Entry onto the Apprenticeship is subject to 4 GCSEs including Maths and English 9-4/A-C or Functional Skills Level 2
  • Apprentices aged 16-18 years are subject to the mandatory requirement to study towards and achieve English and Maths Functional Skills at Level 2 where the Apprentice only holds the level 1 qualifications (GCSE grades D-G/3-1)
  • Following the updated ESFA Apprenticeship rules, from 11th February 2025. Apprentices who begin their apprenticeship training when aged 19+ will no longer be subject to this mandatory requirement. It is now the decision of the apprentice and their employer at the start of their apprenticeship to choose to study towards a Maths and English qualification

On-programme learning:

  • Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management
  • English and Maths (if required) to achieve Level 2

End-point assessment:

Delivered by CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development)

Progression:

Successful Apprentices may benefit from career enhancement or progress further to higher-level management, broaden their HR expertise in another area or further study up to post graduate level.

Course Summary:

As a People Professional, the role is to help the business achieve its objectives by supporting the people agenda and related initiatives. People expertise will be used to provide advice, insights, and constructive challenges to the business, allowing involvement in a diverse range of projects and tasks.

On a daily basis, an employee in this role will offer specific advice and coaching on interpreting relevant policies and employment law to the business. They will also assist with people-related aspects of business projects. Collaboration will occur with stakeholders both within the People function, as well as with internal and external stakeholders as needed.

In this role, the employee will engage with various individuals at different levels of the organization, from HR to other business areas. Strong communication, influence, and negotiation skills are essential, along with the ability to make evidence-based decisions.
